Safari Overview

The 14 Day Uganda Safari Adventure is set in East Africa’s quickest growing destination, the “Pearl of Africa” as refered to by Winston Churchill during his visit in 1907. On this exclusive Africa safari vacation, we’ll take you in both the African rainforest jungle and the golden African savanna plains, which no other destination in Africa can do in a single safari itinerary without crossing borders.

You’ll track the mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable forest and hike into the rainforest native communities to experience some of the arcane native cultures and people, commonly referred to as the Batwa people. Take nature walks that wash the soul and improve your health. Kibale Forest, where you’ll meet the chimpanzee bands that have attracted millions of travellers, researchers and the will be another rainforest attraction that we’ve prepared for you on this Africa Vacation. Guided nature walks, birding, community walks and the time you’ll sped with chimps will be part of of your Kibale exploration.

The African savanna is one of the biggest attraction that brings people of an Africa safari vacation.   • You’ll be taking local small flights between destination that a re too far apart but an exception can be made for tourists that want to take the long countryside drives.
  • The tour is limited to a maximum of 6 travelers per vehicle, and 30% deposit on confirmation.

General FAQs

  • You can reschedule this trip as a private tour to any date up to 12 months at no cost.
  • A 30% deposit of the total tour price will be required to secure a booking, the balance being due 45 days before the tour departure date.
  • Bookings not secured by the appropriate deposit will be released.
  • Cancellation between 90 and 45 days of tour departure will incur a 20% of tour price penalty charge. Confirmed bookings cancelled within 45 days of the tour departure date or no show will incur 100% of tour price penalty charge.
  • Availability of accommodation and activities is not guaranteed; reservations will be made after receiving confirmation of the final itinerary and the payment of the requested deposit. Should any of the quoted accommodations not be available, we reserve the right to substitute it with an alternative suitable option, which might affect the final quoted price.
  • All clients who participate in this tour must be adequately covered by medical insurance as well as travel insurance to protect them in case of unforeseen circumstances.

Rates specified for this tour are subject to change without notice, however, every effort will be made to maintain them. In the event of any change of Government taxes or operating conditions that affect the rates we reserve the right to pass on these charges.

UGANDA GORILLA PERMIT CANCELLATION POLICY
(different and separate from the tour cancellation policy)

Gorilla and Chimpanzee Permits will be guaranteed ONLY upon receipt of the deposit (US$750 for both permits in Jan to Jun 2020 and US$900 in Jul-Dec 2020) since we need to immediately pay Uganda Wildlife Authority Offices in order to secure the permits.

Cancellations received on full payment:

  • More than 90 days before the tracking date, 25% cancellation fee
  • 89 to 46 days before the tracking date, 50% cancellation fee
  • 45 to 9 days before the tracking date, 75% cancellation fee
  • 8 to 0 days before the tracking date, 100% cancellation fee

Important: the minimum age required for gorilla tracking is 15 years whereas for the chimps the minimum age required is 12 years; in case of flu or of any other airborne disease the visitor will be not allowed to meet with the gorillas or the chimps.

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, and a Nkuringo Safaris driver will pick you up from the Airport and transfer you to your hotel in Entebbe. (15 minutes)

Day 2: Fly from Entebbe – Kisoro

Start your long, fun-filled exclusive Uganda Safari Adventure with an early morning transfer from your hotel to Entebbe International Airport for an Aerolink flight to Kisoro. Fly over the beautiful landscape of mountains, hills, terraced slopes, tropical rainforest, and the majestic chain of the Virunga Volcanoes — a breathtaking experience over southwestern Uganda.

Pick up from Kisoro Airstrip and be transferred to the lodge.

Alternatively, take a walking experience through community villages terraced gardens and paddle in a dugout canoe on Lake Mutanda before proceeding to your accommodation in the south of Bwindi.

Day 3: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest south sector

The highlight of this Uganda Safari Adventure, the gorilla trekking excursion, starts at 7:30 am after an early breakfast. Pick up your lunch pack, and your guide will ensure that you make it to the Nkuringo/Rushaga trailhead in time for the gorilla tracking briefing.

Nkuringo visitor centre is about 500 m from your forest lodge (Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge); you can probably walk there within 10 mins. If you’re tracking in the Rushaga sector, your driver will transfer you to the starting point about 30 minutes away.

Make sure you carry at least a litre of drinking water in a reusable bottle; your hiking boots should be comfortable for steep climbs and wet ground. Remember, you’ll be trekking in a rainforest; it could rain any minute. So carry something to keep you dry, like a poncho. Long sleeves and long pants will protect you from the forest bugs and thorny bushes. Plus, follow everything your guide tells you to the dot; everything will work out fine.

Once you have found the gorillas, you will be able to spend an hour watching and learning from them. Your time in the forest cannot be pre-determined, though, because every day is different from the previous based on weather patterns, gorilla movements and other factors considered.

On your return from the jungle, you will proceed directly to Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge. Visit the top of the world in the evening, and on a clear day, you can see a line of the nine volcano mountains later retire your day at the lodge.

Day 4: Relax at the lodge/hiking experience

You can choose to stay at the lodge and enjoy the magnificent views of the rugged Rift Valley landscape, the Virunga Volcanoes Chain and the misty Bwindi Canopy from around the jungle resort. Or, head out for a community walk and hiking experience in the nearby areas.

The day-hike can last for a whole day, and it includes a walk with the Batwa in Buniga Forest Pocket, Birdwatching around the Bwindi boundary, a hike to Suma community waterfalls.

Day 5: Community Walk & Boat Canoe

After breakfast, check out at Nkuringo with your private Uganda Safari Adventure guide to start your community walk to Lake Mutanda, having been dropped by your safari vehicle at Rubuguri Junction. Here, you’ll start your 9km walk to the north shore of the lake, where the dugout canoe team will pick you up for the 2-3 hour paddling experience. The views over dozens of small islands and the Virungas will take your breath away. Rendezvous at the Rwajenje landing site with you to complete a traverse of the lake over 2 and 1/2 hours to the southern shore. From the south coast, it is a 90-minute walk into Kisoro town.

Then we will drive past Kisoro to Gahinga National Park.

Day 6: Golden Monkey Trekking in Mgahinga

Mount Gahinga National Park is 33 km², the smallest national Park but its flora and fauna and the three volcanoes offer a wide range of activities.

Your private Uganda Safari Adventure driver will transfer you to Ntebeko gate, where you’ll start the Golden Monkey tracking activity. Golden Monkeys are a unique species that can only be found in the Virunga Mountains. The tracking and viewing activity is generally conducted for a 4 to 5-hour window.

Optional activity – Mt Sabinyo Volcano Climb

After breakfast, walk to Mgahinga visitor centre for the mountain hiking adventure briefing to start a Volcano climb of Mount Sabinyo. Mt. Sabinyo, at 3,669m, takes about eight hours to cover the 14km round trip; following a steep ridge up to the peak, this trek will be conducted in the company of your Nkuringo Walking Safari guide. Mount Sabinyo, known locally as ‘Old Man’s Teeth’ because of its serrated rim, an extinct volcano and at 3645 meters, it is one of the region’s highest peaks.

Day 7: Kisoro Flight to Queen Elizabeth NP

Have your early morning breakfast at 7:00 am, then transfer to Kisoro Airstrip for connecting flight to Kasese Airstrip. Meet with your driver-guide to continue to the Park. Game drive en-route to your accommodation.

Day 8: Game Viewing Drive & Kazinga Boat Safari

Your first Uganda Safari Adventure day in the golden savanna will start with an early morning African game viewing. In the afternoon, after lunch, your driver will transfer you to the head of the Mweya Peninsular to take one of the most exciting Africa safari experiences in Uganda, a boat launch safari on the Kazinga Channel.

Kazinga Channel shores are swarmed concentrations of hippopotamus and herds of elephants, buffalo, and other bog and small animals that come to quench their thirst in the fresh river waters. The Kazinga Channel also attracts a tremendous variety of rare avian species, including the African Eagle, Open-Billed Stork, and Pied Kingfishers.

Day 9: Game Drive & Transfer To Kibale

Have an early breakfast, and take on another Uganda Safari Adventure savanna game drive. View more African safari game as you catch them from their hunt expeditions.

Your private driver will gracefully drive onto the highway heading to Kibale Forest NP. Enjoy the landscape as you drive along the Kaseses-Fort Portal highway southwestern side of Uganda. Kibale forest National Park bares homage to a considerable number of primates, as you’ll find out the next day.

You’ll be driving about 3 – 4 hours from Kasese to Kibale.

After lunch in fort portal, you’ll shake off the long drive with a walk to the “top of the world” along crater lakes which this area is also famous for.

Day 10: Chimpanzee Trekking Adventure in Kibale

Here’s your chance to take on your second Uganda Safari Adventure rainforest jungle challenge of finding the excited chimpanzee troop and keeping up with their natural daily habits. Can you take it? It’s exhilarating and energy drenching but worth every moment.

Today, you will track chimpanzees and learn about flora and fauna of this ancient rainforest reserve.

In the afternoon, you’ll take a walk through the Bigodi community, found in the borders of Kibale Forest. Bigodi village is situated in the highlands of western Uganda, in the shadow of the Ruwenzori Mountains, the famous “Mountains of the Moon”. The community you’ll be visiting is located about 40 kilometres south of Fort Portal and borders Kibale National Park.

Since 1992, the people of Bigodi have worked together as a community to open our natural beauty to eco-tourists and bring our crafts and handiwork to the world. This will be your opportunity to be part of this African community.

Day 11: Kibale to Murchison Falls NP (7-9 hours)

Have an early breakfast, drive via the Escarpment, enjoy the landscapes as you are northbound to Murchison Falls National Park; This day will be a long driving day of 7-9 hours; we will have numerous stops to stretch your legs.

Enjoy a late evening game drive through the Murchison Falls game tracks as you catch the predators in their evening hunting expeditions.

Day 12: Murchison Falls Game Drive

Another African savanna experience on this Uganda Safari Adventure starts after breakfast with a morning savanna game drive in the Murchison tracks. You may catch sight of; giraffes, elephants, lions, hartebeest and different species of birds. Look out for mammals like the graceful Roth child Giraffe, Jackson’s Hartebeest, Uganda Kob, Defassa Waterbuck, Buffaloes, Elephants, Warthog, Hippos, Oribi and when lucky a leopard and Lion among others.

After that exciting savanna game drive, you’ll take the morning delta boat safari ride to the bottom of the Murchison waterfalls. Look out for the Nile crocodile, hippos, waterbucks, and various bird species. Upon reaching the bottom of the waterfalls, you will disembark and climb/hike your way up to the Top of the Falls, where you will be rewarded with amazing views of the Nile. Also, be on the lookout for different bird species.

Day 13: Budongo Forest Chimpanzee Tracking

After early morning breakfast, we will set off for Budongo Forest, found in the southern sector of Murchison Falls, NP, arriving just in time to pop your packed lunches.

After having your bellies nourished, you’ll proceed for a Chimpanzee Tracking briefing with the UWA rangers, giving you instructions on the different behaviours as we approach the Chimpanzees in the wild.

Later after an hour or two with our closest cousins, we shall drive back to the northern sector of Murchison falls National Park. We arrive at the lodge just in time for dinner and get a good night’s rest in preparation for the next days` activities.

Day 14: Transfer to Kampala via Ziwa Rhino

This morning, after your breakfast, you will enjoy a morning game drive in search of more savanna wildlife. Later, return to the lodge for breakfast and check out. You’ll be transferred to Entebbe via the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you’ll have your lunch and drive on to Entebbe.

Have your night at Papyrus Guesthouse and check out the next day for your flight back home.
