Q&A About Uganda Safari Tours & Gorilla Trekking.
Uganda is a unique Africa safari destination compared to its eastern counterparts. On your Uganda safari holiday, you should expect a more varied landscape from the savannah plains to the rugged western region filled with various game, primates, and unique bird species.
Most Uganda safari trips begin in Entebbe, where you find the only international airport, and head west to a wide belt that contains most of the safari destinations. A Uganda safari typically consists of a classic savannah plains game drive, a traditional boat safari, and trekking through the pristine rainforest jungles to find our cousin primates. Birding is outstanding, with more than 1050 bird species flocking the incredible variety of habitats. The most sought-after bird for a true birder is the grotesques prehistoric shoebill that hunts in the swampy areas of Entebbe and Murchison Falls National Park.
The highlight of a Uganda safari journey is spending precious moments with the magnificent mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, 230 mi (480 km) from Entebbe. Bwindi and Mgahinga in the far southwestern border provide excellent gorilla trekking adventures with various safari lodges spread out in the four trailheads on the park’s boundaries. Travelers can also fly-in from Entebbe, or Masai Mara in Kenya, to a small airstrip and drive 3 hours to the gorilla park.

Visit Uganda on safari for more than just the mountain gorillas in its rainforest jungle. Uganda is a friendly East African nation with rich natural diversity, diverse landscapes, and it deserves to make your Africa safari bucket list.
One of those memorable experiences in this remote destination’s jungles is tracking the mountain gorillas in the Impenetrable rainforest of Bwindi National Park. It is a phenomenal safari experience for any nature or animal enthusiast.
It’s only in Uganda where the vast savanna plains fade into the rainforest jungles and the mountain ranges creating a dreamy natural world of wonders. Uganda’s savanna plains have not received attention as much as other East Africa Safari destinations, making Uganda the most incredible destination for a private wildlife game safari with little or no crowds. Most savvy travelers think a Uganda safari offers more privacy to travelers that want a raw intrinsic experience.
Like most African countries, Uganda is blessed with myriad indigenous cultures that are still practiced away from the modern western cultures that have infested the international communities. Visit Uganda Next, and you’ll immerse yourself in some of the undiscovered cultures in Africa, from the food, entertainment, spiritual practices, clothing, and languages.

Currently, Uganda is safe for tourists even though it has received bad press in the past due to political freedom and gay rights. Those problems are usually in the press and around a few city pockets in the capital city. Away from the mainstream, Uganda is the safest country in the region.
The safety Uganda enjoys has opened up more opportunities for tourism to grow, and Uganda now competes favourably with other Africa safari destinations in the region.
If a tourist endeavour to get fully vaccinated for COVID-19, observe the operating procedures and keep away from crowded places, a Uganda safari is the safest tourism activity right now because you’ll be in open savannah spaces and rainforest jungles where you’ll meet very few people.

The dry season is the best time to visit Uganda. There’s plentiful sunshine in drier months from June to August and December to February, and these are considered the best time for a Uganda safari. There’s little or no downpour during these months, especially in the northern region of Kidepo Valley and Murchison Falls National Parks.
Where the gorilla trekking safaris occur in the south, trails are dry and not slippery, making this the most preferred time for a Uganda gorilla trek or chimpanzee tracking experience. Wildlife is easier to spot as animals gather around water points, and there is also little undergrowth for the animals to hide. You will also have enough time for bird-watching.
Uganda is a tropical country with lots of rainfall. The wettest months are March to May, and they can be challenging for a safari trip. Some lodges close down during the Wet season months or cut their rates, and some roads become very muddy and hard to negotiate.
Nonetheless, a Uganda safari is good all year round. The mountain gorilla parks are open throughout the year, and you can visit Uganda any time.
Compared to its East African counterparts, Uganda is relatively good for safari. Although Uganda’s savannah parks may not match the sheer numbers of wildlife in pioneer safari destinations like Kenya and Tanzania, Uganda offers a more varied safari experience than them.
From the savannah plains to the rainforest jungles to mountain summits, a Uganda safari combines a savannah game drive with mountain climbing, birding, and primate viewing in a single trip, which no other safari destination may be able to pull off.
The first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions safari is viewing wildlife on a classic game drive. Like other safari destinations, Uganda offers relatively good game drives and also gives opportunities to view wildlife from a boat. And because it’s relatively still unknown to swarms of travellers, Uganda’s savannah parks offer a more private experience than the eastern parks.
Four of Uganda’s ten national parks offer good classic game drive experiences: Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls, Lake Mburo, and Kideppo Valley National Park. They may not match the wildlife numbers in Masai Mara or Serengeti but indeed take a savvy and patient traveler to the heights of the natural wild.
Your best classic game drive experience on a safari in Uganda will happen at two destinations: the most famous Queen Elizabeth National Park and the extensive Murchison Falls National Park in the northeastern region. Both destinations offer excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.

Most safari operators can fix a gorilla trekking activity on any Africa safari package. However, if you intend to explore more of the country’s wilderness attractions, a licensed local safari operator is recommended.

Uganda has good safari accommodation to cater to all types of safari travellers. Unlike the more established safari destinations in Kenya and Tanzania, Uganda is a recent entrant in tourism and leisure travel. Most of the facilities have recently just cropped up around Uganda’s attractions. Therefore, all Uganda’s parks offer a good selection of safari accommodation ranging from budget hostels to luxury up-market safari lodges.
Uganda has smaller safari camps and lodges, making for a great private stay considering the current COVID-19 circumstances. Because few tourists are flocking the country, most lodges and camps have no more than 15 rooms. And in wet or low seasons, a guest could have the whole property to themselves.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga National Park, where mountain gorilla trekking excursions occur, are at high altitudes where it’s mostly cold and wet. So, expect to find cozy cottages with fireplaces in these regions for it’s the kind of safari accommodation suitable for that kind of weather.
Luxury tented camps are also a popular choice for private safaris in Uganda. Various camping options are available in the rainforest and savannah destinations. Although camping is considered a budget accommodation option, it can be enriching for more adventurous travellers.
