Safari Overview

Uganda trails away from classic Africa safari destinations with exclusive attractions and this Best of Uganda safari holiday ensure you capture that uniqueness. The trip starts in Entebbe, where you most probably will jet in, and takes the southwestern circuit into the lush highlands before taking the southern route following the Nile through Murchison Falls to Kidepo valley.

Intense nature moments, like the encounter with mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and meeting without playful cousins in Kibale, are well curated into this exclusive journey to help you create lasting memories and stories. Seeing mountain gorillas is a top highlight highly recommended by almost all visitors to the Pearl of Africa. However, it will require all participants to be physically able to hike the uneven jungle terrains to get to a habituated mountain gorilla family.

A visit to Africa is not complete without immersing yourself in the native cultures. In Bwindi, you’re introduced to the native forest people commonly known as the Batwa, and in Kidepo, you get deep into the Karamojong nomads. These two strong cultures have not been so much changed by modern civilization and will give you some insight into the ancient lives of native tribes.

Travel worry-free because we will be on the lookout for your protection against CORONAVIRUS infection. The Uganda Tourism Board has put in place operating procedures at all open properties you’ll be staying at. UWA, which operates all wildlife reserves, watches the execution of operating procedures keenly. And our standard operating procedures make sure the places you’ll visit minimize COVID-19 exposure to our travelers. Most importantly for your entry, you’ll require a NEGATIVE PCR COVID-19 Test certificate issued not more than 72 hours. Find more answers to covid-restrictions in Uganda.

The drive takes 6 to 7 hours, with a few stops in beautiful African towns along the way.

Bwindi Impenetrable forest offers arguably the most productive montane forest birding in Africa and supports 23 of Uganda’s 24 Albertine Rift endemic bird species. After a very early breakfast, drive along the Nteko Ridge to the Ivy River Trail’s junction with the forest (7 km) and then start the unforgettable hike across the forest (13km – 4-5 hours). Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is a vast, unique natural reserve – monkeys, duikers, bush pigs, and some of Bwindi’s world-renowned bird species, plus many butterflies can be sighted.

If you are fortunate, you may even encounter gorillas! Once part of a much larger forest that included the Virunga Volcanoes in neighboring Rwanda, the park is nowadays an ecological island within a sea of villages and farmland, and its conservation importance is immense.

The emphasis of this Uganda Safari activity is for your walking safari guide to share his forest knowledge with you. It is not simply an A to B hike. The trail is also an essential footpath for local people, particularly on market days, traveling from Nkuringo and Nteko to Buhoma, on the park’s northern boundary. There is no road through Bwindi, so vehicles driving between the two locations have an incredible 170 km bone-jarring journey taking 6 to 8 hours.

Upon arrival at the park headquarters in Buhoma, meet with the vehicle and departure to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The southern area of Ishasha is notably recognized for its resident ‘tree-climbing’ lions that are a unique attraction and one of the highlights of all safaris taken within the park. The lions can be spotted hanging on branches of enormous fig trees, whereas the Uganda Kob (which is the primary food to these lions) graze on the plains below. The drive takes about 4 hours (182kms)
