Uganda Wildlife Authority has announced promotional rates for December 2020, January, February, and March 2021. The discounted rates include gorilla trekking, Chimpanzee trekking, and park entry fees.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the suspension of ecotourism also meant the main revenue source for wildlife conservation had been lost. There are fears some of those in surrounding communities who depend on tourists could turn to poaching out of desperation. Though the wildlife parks were reopened recently, it’s not all glory as visitor numbers are not expected to climb up immediately. Traveler’s expenditure has also been widely affected.
In an effort to reverse the effects of coronavirus on Uganda’s tourism faster, UWA has revised fees for the most famous attractions. “Our visitors are at the heart of our conservation efforts, and as we enter into this festive season, we are glad to be able to reward them for their continued support throughout the years and more especially through this period of the COVID-19 pandemic.” Sam Mwandah, UWA Executive Director, writes in a newsletter released on November 27, 2020.
With domestic tourism being promoted more than ever, these Uganda wildlife promotional rates couldn’t have come at a better time. During the promotional period, Uganda will now be selling gorilla permits way less than half of what Rwanda’s gorilla permits cost (at $1500) and at the same price as DRC ($400).
Effective December 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021, non-residents gorilla tracking permits will be sold at face value for US $400 per person (reduced from $700), birding fees, and park entry fees all cut by 50% for the promotional duration.
A 50% discount on the Savannah park entrance fee for Lake Mburo NP, Queen Elizabeth NP, Kidepo Valley NP, Murchison Falls NP, Semuliki NP, Toro Semliki Wildlife Reserve, Katonga Wildlife Reserve, Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve, and Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve. Also a 50% discount on birding fees.
Reduction on the gorilla and chimpanzee tracking fees for all visitor categories as follows
The promotional discount on the gorilla and chimp permit fees will only apply to new permit purchases between December 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021, and not on rescheduled permits with cash deposits or purchased using credit letters.
One you buy a promotional permit, no reschedules will be allowed.
We also remind our visitors to continue to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines
throughout this period. Download the COVID guidelines here.
