Murchison Falls National Park is a wildlife viewing destination; you would need at least two nights in the park to fully exhaust its African bush wilderness. Boat trips on the Paara stretch along the Victoria Nile a pretty rich way to explore the various animal species that come on the Nile banks. Scheduled boat launch and private boat safari are provided by either UWA, Wild Frontiers, or other private companies. On strategic shore locations on the channel are a great choice of exclusive safari lodges and camps.
How to get to Murchison Falls NP
Murchison Falls National Park is one of the most accessible reserves in Uganda, both by road and by air. Public transportation is simple to navigate, although travellers prefer private road trips. Unfortunately, the park does not connect well with other attractions except Kibale Forest in the south and Kidepo Valley in the far northeastern part of Uganda.
By Air: Entebbe to Pakuba Airfield (19 km from the park) by chartered or scheduled small aircraft. Other airfields in Murchison Falls Park include Chobe Airfield to the east, and Bugungu Airfield near Murchison Falls, to the south.
By Road: You can reach the park through the Chobe, Wankwar, Mubako and Tangi gates north of the park via Kampala-Pakwach Road, which crosses the Nile at Karuma Falls Bridge northeastern corner of the park. The park is 260 km/161 mi from Kampala.
If you take the route via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, approach Paraa from Masindi town, about a 4-hour drive (305km) from Kampala. The main route from Masindi enters the Conservation Area through Kichumbanyobo Gate and passes through Kaniyo Pabidi Forest to Paraa (85km).
A longer but more scenic alternative runs for 135km from Masindi to the park’s Bugungu gate. The route includes a passage through Budongo Forest and a memorable descent of the rift valley escarpment with views across Lake Albert towards the mountains of the Congo.
