Safari Lodges Near Kibale Forest
On this page, we take a look at good lodges around Kibale Forest National Park that provide access to a range of guided activities inside and around the park.
Kibale Forest is estimated to have more than 1,500 chimps and more than 50 chimpanzee troops. The Uganda Wildlife Authority and conservation bodies have habituated a few groups allowing humans to visit the troops in their natural setting. Kibale is the most accessible place on the continent to meet the wild chimps up close, an experience that has attracted a healthy number of tourists to this part of the country. There are many accommodation options to choose from around the Kibale forest, but Nkuringo Safaris only deals with the best in the region who also keenly address COVIS-19 standards.

Bird lovers will be interested to know that there are 325 species of birds recorded in the national park. The list includes the six species endemic to the Albertine Rift region, like the black-capped Apalis, collared Apalis, purple-breasted sunbirds, blue-headed sunbirds, dusky crimson wings, and red-faced woodland warblers.
There are some lovely walks in the area, including the walk in the small Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary in hopes of meeting more primates in the east of the park. A network of trails in Sebitoli Forest provides further opportunities for viewing various primates and birds on the forest’s northern side.
Amabere ga Nyina Mwiru Caves is a renowned cave system located near Fort Portal, around 15km from Kibale Forest, and is considered one of the seven wonders of Uganda and great to visit.
How to get to Kibale National Park
Kibale National Park is one of Uganda’s easiest reserves to access, both by road and air. Public transportation is simple to navigate, although travelers prefer private road trips because it connects well with far-flung attractions like Murchison Falls NP, Queen Elizabeth, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Parks.
Kibale is about 300 km west of Kampala capital city, 38 kilometers south of Fort Portal city, and about 65 kilometers from the nearest savannah reserve, Queen Elizabeth National Park. And about 235 kilometers south, in Bwindi Impenetrable NP, travelers track the other famous primates, the mountain gorillas.
The nearest airports are light aircraft airstrips, i,e., Fort Portal Airport 8 km outside Fort portal town, and Kasese Airport near Queen Elizabeth National Park.
