Bwindi Impenetrable NP, Northern Sector
Mahogany Springs Lodge
Price Range: USD 300 pp (full board)
Unspoiled and untamed, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the world’s last remaining rich ecosystems. It is spread over a series of steep ridges and valleys that form a protective habitat for the mountain gorillas, the main attractions in this pristine jungle. The Buhoma section of the forest is home to five Mountain Gorilla families. Mahogany Springs Lodge provides a prime access point to starting the excellent gorilla trekking activity at Buhoma trailhead.
To its guests, Mahogany Springs Lodge promises privacy and serenity blended with optimal comfort in a spectacular natural setting overlooking Bwindi Impenetrable forest’s most beautiful canopy and on the banks of Muyanja river, which flows through the jungle. The exotic gardens and intricately designed stone pathways leading to the river invite you to explore every corner of this magical place, uncovering the various surprises along the way, such as the homegrown vegetable garden. The lodge is about 10 minutes walk from UWA headquarters and the main starting point for gorilla trekking.
Accommodation at Mahogany
Mahogany Springs has eight stone and thatch suites, which provide large en-suite bathrooms and a balcony terrace that looks out onto Bwindi treetops, affording guests excellent forest views. The presidential suite, also on offer, is well positioned on the banks of River Muyanja with incredible views of both the river and rainforest treetops.
Suites are spacious with large double doors, hardwood floors, crisp white linens, sun-soaked windows, gorgeously designed open terracotta showers, advanced mosquito net systems, and private terraces panoramic views of the verdant valley.
UWA does not permit children under the age of 15 years to trek mountain gorillas. Alternatively, Mahogany Springs provides a selection of activities with a babysitter to keep them busy at the lodge while you embark on your gorilla trekking experience.
