At Nkuringo Safaris we like to work with our customers to prepare a journey that will deliver maximum subjective experience. Here are the local experts that will help you plan this safari in your way!

Set off on a once-in-a-lifetime journey in Uganda’s lush highlands on this private Uganda Gorilla & Wildlife Safari Expedition. Drive from Entebbe to Bwindi through picturesque landscapes, remote hamlets dotting the hilly green countryside, and fertile volcanic slopes neatly planted with dense rows of cowpea and string beans as far as the eye can see. In Bwindi, you’ll spend two nights at the exclusively beautiful eco-facility; Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge, where you’ll hail to meet the mountain gorilla family.

Trekking and spending peaceful yet electric (and well-chaperoned) time with mountain gorillas is a rare, heart-filling experience on this trip. An exotic forest walk will complement that experience with Batwa cultural natives, where they’ll introduce you to local remote cultures.

The Uganda Gorilla & Wildlife Safari Expedition challenges you to a hike through the oldest trails in Africa’s oldest and most endowed jungle. With an expert guide, you’ll be let into the impenetrable jungle, showing you some of the rarest plants, ancient tree species, rare birds, and shy animals the life under the forest canopy. On the other end of the jungle, your private driver will meet and transfer you to Queen Elizabeth Savannah Park, where you’ll spend the next two nights.

A game drive and boat safari on Kazinga Channel in QENP will introduce you to the Pearl of Africa’s big savannah game animals, including Ishasha’s tree-lions, elephants, leopard, hippo, buffalo, antelope, Nile crocs, and more. This trip is private and customizable. It means you can take it solo or with friends and family and adjust a few things to suit you.

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our chauffeur will pick you up after you clear the Immigration and COVID-19 inbound bureaucracies and transfer you to Papyrus Guesthouse — a small cozy lodge in a quiet suburban neighborhood not far from the Airport. Depending on your flight time, you can either relax back at the lodge or go check out Entebbe’s attractions.

Entebbe has several attractions to introduce a traveler to Uganda’s tourist attractions like the UWEC Zoo, Nganba Chimps Island on Lake Victoria, the Botanical Gardens, Nakiwogo landing site, sand beaches, shopping malls, and urban restaurants and bars. One common with travelers is the canoe boat birding experience on Mabamba Swamps to view the prehistoric Showbill Stork. The Shoebill expedition leaves at 14:00—15:00 and if your arrival falls out of the timeline, then you can take other attractions in Entebbe.

If you jet in the evening, we recommend you relax in the guesthouse gardens to prepare for the much-anticipated Uganda Gorilla & Wildlife Safari Expedition starting the next day.

Embark on a long road trip journey of about 9-10 hours to the gorilla sanctuary where your primary Uganda Gorilla & Wildlife Safari Expedition activity will take place.

Drive from Entebbe to Bwindi through picturesque landscapes, remote hamlets dotting the hilly green countryside, and fertile volcanic slopes neatly planted with dense rows of cowpea and string beans as far as the eye can see.

In the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, on a 7,000 ft elevated ridge, you’ll spend two nights at the exclusively beautiful eco-facility; Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge. It is here where you’ll hail to meet the mountain gorilla family.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
Accommodation: Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge (Private Cottage)

After an early breakfast, a guide will drive you to the trailhead for briefing before you hit the jungles to find the mountain gorilla family. Trekking through the jungle could take from 30 minutes to 4 hours, depending on where the trackers last saw the mountain gorillas the previous evening. Make sure you are physically able to withstand the trek through uneven terrain, damp forest floors, and thick forest cover.

The beauty of this rainforest is spectacular. The area offers a dramatic, steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing tourists access. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle and endangered giants is an incredible, exciting experience to be long-savored. Many find it to be a rare and moving opportunity. The tracking can occur at Nkuringo or Rushaga (1 hr drive from Nkuringo), as per your gorilla permit.

When you meet the gorillas, your guide and rangers will allow you only 60 minutes before they escort you back. You can spend more time with the mountain gorillas only when you purchase the Gorilla Habituation Experience Permit that costs USD 1,500 per person. The experience allows a permit holder at least four-hours with a semi-habituated gorilla family.

After your experience with the mountain giants, and if you still have the guts to explore the region, you can take an evening guided walk to meet the local tribespeople, the Batwa. You can also visit a single-family home, listen to their age-old tales and delve into their hidden cultures, song, and music.

Back at forest lodge, as the night cools down, you have a roaring campfire and local songs to look forward to, as well as a deep massage, perfect for soothing any aching muscles after a day of hiking.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
Accommodation: Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge

After a very early breakfast, drive along the Nteko Ridge to the Ivy River Trail’s junction with the forest (7 km) and then start the nature hike across the forest (13km – 4-5 hours). This part of the Uganda Gorilla & Wildlife Safari Expedition is is to introduce you to Uganda the richness of this pristine jungle that flourishes with some of the world’s rarest plant and animal species. Some of the incredible species you’ll meet are monkeys, duikers, bush pigs, and some of Bwindi’s world-renowned bird species, plus many butterflies.

If you are fortunate, you may even encounter chimpanzees! Once part of a much larger forest that included the Virunga Volcanoes in neighboring Rwanda, the park is nowadays an ecological island within a sea of villages and farmland, and its conservation importance is immense. Making it an isolated forest chunk surrounded by human settlement.

The emphasis of this Gorillas in The Wild Adventure activity is for your walking guide to share his knowledge of the forest with you; it is not merely an A to B hike. The trail is also an essential footpath for local people, particularly on market days, traveling from Nkuringo and Nteko to Buhoma, on the park’s northern boundary. There is no road through Bwindi, so vehicles driving between the two locations have an incredible 170 km bone-jarring journey taking 6 to 8 hours.

Upon arrival at the park headquarters in Buhoma, meet with the vehicle and drive for Queen Elizabeth National Park—an hour’s road drive through Ishasha southern part of the Queen Elizabeth NP. Ishasha sector is notable for its resident ‘tree-climbing lions’, an unusual attraction and one of the highlights of all safaris taken within the park. You’ll spot the lions lazily hanging on branches of enormous fig trees watching the grazers down below.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
